Windows Vista does not have Telnet client installed by default. I learnt this amazing thing today while trying to show my friend the much famed ASCII version of Star Wars. I have not begun to use Vista as my default OS, its installed in my machine more as a novelty and as a test bench than a thing that I actually work on !
However, I did manage to install Telnet client in Vista following these simple steps :
- Launch the "Programs and Features" link in Control Panel (Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features).
- Select the "Turn Windows features on or off."
- Select the Telnet Client option
- Click on OK.
- To confirm the installation, a dialog box appears.
What is most amazing is that the client is bundled with the OS but not installed by default !
hehe.. i v been looking for that one.. thanks a lot
ReplyDeleteBigYaN,
ReplyDeleteTelnet is disabled by default because it is so insecure!
A good substitute for Windows telnet client is AbsoluteTelnet from Celestial Software. Not only does it support telnet as the MS client does, but it also supports SSH, which is a better security choice. It has a tabbed interface, advanced security, and is translated into seven languages!!
